I don’t know about you, but I have trouble forcing myself to wash my face before bed. It’s seriously a problem for me! I will forget to take makeup off my face and just fall into bed, regardless. I had to solve this problem because my face wasn’t liking my lazy habits. Remembering the makeup remover pads of my teen years, I decided it was time to make my own using ingredients that I knew would be healthy for my skin and not sting my eyes. One of my most popular posts on this blog is my classic DIY Peace Pits Deodorant Paste recipe. It’s so popular in part because we are all trying to find a better alternative to the toxic antiperspirants and deodorants on the market, but it’s also because that recipe WORKS! And it works REALLY well! The only problem with that recipe is that some people find themselves too sensitive to use baking soda based deodorants.

I LOVE a good soak in the tub with herbs and salts, and during this month of detox, your body will appreciate it too! While you are busy getting into working out and eating healthier, your muscles are probably feeling all of your hard work. One of my favorite natural ways to soothe muscle pain and help my muscles to recover faster, after a good workout, is with a rosemary lime herbal salt bath.
I have been on a LONG journey trying to find makeup that I love with ingredients I don’t hate. It’s been very difficult because many companies out there say that their ingredients are natural, but when you go to read the ingredients list, you find a treasure trove of hidden ingredients that shouldn’t be there. I’ve also found natural brands that I wanted to love so bad, but they just DIDN’T WORK well, at all! It’s a nightmare that many of you probably already know. After years of shunning makeup and feeling like there wasn’t a brand of makeup that I could stand behind, I finally stumbled upon a brand that is TRULY 100% PURE and natural, and I am totally stoked to wear makeup for all the special holiday occasions that are coming up this season!
I have a secret ingredient that I prefer to use in place of the water in ALL of my DIY beauty products and toiletries. Hydrosols, aka flower waters! I first came across hydrosols in my essential oil studies. I had learned that they were a result of making essential oils, essentially a byproduct. I was fascinated by these gentle essential oil infused waters. Along the way, I learned a lot more about them and their many uses and varieties. I wanted to purchase every hydrosol that I came across but was sorely disappointed when I realized that I couldn’t afford to purchase all of the hydrosols that I wanted. What is a DIY loving hippy to do? Make it myself, of course! Now you can too!
Recently we’ve been dealing with all sorts of eye issues in my home. Everything from conjunctivitis to infection, and not just in the humans in our home. When Syfy became ill with pneumonia and strep throat, he also managed to spread the strep to his eyes, getting conjunctivitis too. Our pediatrician prescribed $60 eye drops, saying that they likely wouldn’t work because most of the time conjunctivitis is viral, but just in case we should use the eye drops. I am not one to overuse antibiotics and am not willing to use them unless they are absolutely needed. Out of desperation, I began investigating all my herbal books, looking for the best herbs to use to help soothe Syfy’s eyes and get rid of the infection. That’s when I realized that I already had everything that I needed to help my family and pets with all their eye irritations!
During the wintertime, dry skin is a problem for pretty much everyone out there, but it can be even worse for those working in jobs where they are washing their hands frequently. If you are dealing with dry, cracked skin, then you are likely feeling the pain of trying to heal during the wintertime! Both the Hippy Hubby and I have worked in the service industry, having to wash our hands frequently, doing the dishes with harsh soaps several times a shift, and cleaning with harsh cleaners every day. All this wear and tear was taking a toll on the Hippy Hubby’s hands, so I decided to make him a body butter, but I took it a step further and infused it with skin healing herbs to help heal his hands, while deeply moisturizing his skin. It turns out, this herbal infused body butter works so well, we both use it for all our skin healing needs now.

Have you ever used a Neti pot? It looks like a teapot used for kids tea parties, but in fact,it’s actually made for you to stick up your nose and pour salt water through your nasal passages. The Neti pot helps to cleanse and clear the nasal passages, helping to relieve sinusitis, allergies, cold symptoms, and hay fever. The warm flow of slightly salty water helps to remove trapped old mucus, dirt, and germs from your nasal passageways. When I first learned about making my own shampoo with soapnuts, I was very excited. I have been on a journey this year to learn the many ways that I can no-poo my hair and soapnuts was on the list to try out. After I first made this shampoo, I haven’t turned back. My hair is super soft after using this shampoo and didn’t cause me to have to detox again with my no-poo regime. This has been my favorite herbal shampoo to date! My hair is still growing like a weed, something that it used to never do before I became my hippy self. Someday soon, I will achieve my goal of having “mermaid hair”!
