With everyone looking to find health this time of year, detox teas are all the rage, but the price of some of these teas are over the top! I scoured the grocery shelves, the internet, and even Etsy to compare prices and ingredients but nothing beats how much cheaper it is to make these teas in bulk at home! Not only that, you can tailor your teatox to fit your needs. Continue reading
Tis' the season of detoxes, workout programs, and juice fasts and I'm over here wishing all my detox options weren't so intense. I've tried the teatoxes that made my intestines cry, the juice fasts that made me realize I can't handle the feeling of an empty stomach, and even the intense diet changes that had me craving whatever it was I'd given up for the week. While I have found helpful lessons in all of my health-seeking adventures, I can be a bit lazy and prefer much gentler methods of detoxing. Which is why I was excited to discover charcoal lemonade, or as I like to call it; dirty lemonade!
Pumpkin season has arrived in the Hippy household, and I am already dreaming up all the pumpkin recipes that I want to come up with for you guys! I can't deny my pumpkin-love every fall. I like to indulge in pumpkin everything….except maybe those pumpkin Oreos. During the fall season, I am a glutton for pumpkin pie any time of day. I don't care that it's a dessert, it makes the best breakfast, but sometimes I am in a hurry and don't have time to make a pie. That's where my fantastic Pumpkin Pie Breakfast Smoothie comes into play. Not only is it delicious but it's also nutritious, so ditch the guilt and indulge your pumpkin season cravings!
When I am craving something sweet, I like to trick myself with sneakily healthy desserts that feed my sweet tooth cravings without all the guilt afterward. I feel like a lot of people don't realize just how easy it is to put together something sweet and tasty without all the icky stuff that you are trying to avoid with your diet right now. When it comes to making something quick to feed my midnight cravings, I always turn to smoothies.
It's the start of the new year and everyone is trying to keep themselves on track with their new healthy goals for 2016. Smoothies are definitely a big part of the health movement, and if you are trying to detox, go vegan, lose weight, or just plain be healthier, it's likely that smoothies on are your list to try out. I am right there with you! This year, with a renewed vigor for keeping my body healthy, I decided I was going to get serious about my smoothiemaking and really try harder to have breakfast every morning.
Both Syfy and I have issues with dairy and try to avoid it as much as possible these days (with the exception of really good cheese and yogurt!). I use non-dairy options instead when making all of our classic favorites! One of first things that I searched out to learn how to make, was whipped cream. I grew up in a household that believes that no hot cocoa and no pumpkin pie should ever go without at least a dollop (or more….) of whipped cream! This is law in our house and so the thought of getting rid of all of our dairy had daunted me, when I realized that also meant my beloved whipped cream. Don't be sad! There is a fantastic and super simple alternative that tastes just as great! Take it from this whipped-creamaholic that this coconut milk whipped cream is SUPER good and doesn't taste like coconut to me, at all. Continue reading
Most of us are guilty of it. According to the Idaho-based Panhandle Health District, up to 75 % of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Even though our bodies NEED hydration, we ignore the feeling and continue to go about our busy lives, forgetting to drink that extra sip of water our body's been asking for all day long. The first thing I think in the morning is usually “coffee” not “water”. Continue reading
After a good workout, replenishing electrolytes is important, but the last place that I turn to is Gatorade. Growing up, Gatorade was a staple when we were sick or exercising. I remember whenever one of us had the flu, there was always chicken noodle soup and a bottle of Gatorade was always on hand. I myself, never really liked Gatorade. I have always found water and iced tea to be much more satisfying to my thirst. After learning just how easy it is to get electrolytes into your body through natural means, I wondered why I even needed to buy Gatorade or Powerade anymore. Continue reading
Standing in the middle of the grocery store isle, I am at a loss as to what to purchase as far as kid's drinks go. On one side of the spectrum, you have the MANY kid's beverages with icky ingredients while on the other side of the spectrum you have the really great organic stuff (like Little Me Tea, which IS totally awesome by the way) that costs way more than my bank account can afford on a regular basis.
