Let’s be honest here. Chocolate is amazing. I could sit and eat chocolates until every last one is gone and everyone is wondering who ate all the chocolates. I never realized how easy it is to make my own chocolates until I found a really simple recipe in one of my mom’s chocolate cookbooks. I took that recipe and reworked it with healthier ingredients and lo and behold Hippy chocolates were created!
It’s sooooo hot outside right now, down here in Texas. Unlike the northern states, there is a point in the summer where we like to hide out in our homes because the heat threshold has hit the maximum. We’re talking frying an egg on our front porch kind of hot. That’s the point during the summer when I start making all sorts of yummy frozen desserts to cool me off. This summer is no exception. Many desserts call for sweetened condensed milk, but for someone who lives a dairy-free lifestyle, what’s a good substitute? You might not realize it, but it’s extremely easy to make sweetened condensed milk yourself, and even easier to make it with ingredients that fit into your diet!

It’s that time of year when the kiddo is bringing home all sorts of viruses from school and I am trying my best to keep him healthy through it all. The problem is, even at my best, he is so picky that it’s nearly impossible for me to find a healthy version of things that he’s willing to try. One of my favorite ways to get him his vitamins and minerals while he is under the weather is with my Flowerchild Immune Support* Electrolyte pops! I combine my Flowerchild Refreshment punch, electrolyte-rich coconut water, and citrus juice, along with mineral-rich salts to make popsicles that help replenish electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals when your kiddo needs them the most!*
What is better than coming back from playing at the park on a Saturday afternoon to put delicious chewy vegan chocolate chip cookies into the oven? Nothing. As the amazing smell of freshly baked cookies filled my home, I realized that we had totally had the best Saturday afternoon as a family. I had thought of the idea while showering that morning. We could make up our cookie dough before we headed out the door, that way when we got home we could bake up a batch to enjoy after all the fun we had at the park. Out of love, Syfy and I decided to share how we make our vegan chocolate chip cookies LIVE on Facebook! For his first LIVE video, he did so well! He said that he wants to make banana cookies for our next episode, so I guess we are!
It’s getting hot out here in TX!!! Every evening after I put the kiddo down to bed, I start craving something sweet, but I have been hard-pressed to actually make any desserts because I just can’t bear to heat up the house. This is the time of year that I start whipping up my no-bake desserts to avoid using any heat. Summertime is one of my favorite times to eat all sorts of lemony treats, and lemon bars are my absolute favorite cool treat. Since it IS summertime, I also love to use coconut in pretty much everything, giving them a tropical feel. I figured this recipe needed a little tropical inspiration too! It also helps you to get your daily dose of coconut oil! If that isn’t reason enough to scarf the whole pan, I don’t know what is!

I understand the plight of the mom who has to sneak their kid’s nutrition in every single bite. My child is a picky eater. A VERY picky eater. It’s not for a lack of trying either! This kid has had the best of the best! As an infant, he ate nothing but my homemade organic baby food and loved every single thing I put into his mouth. Then, at around 3 years of age, he began fighting anything that was remotely vegetable related. I couldn’t understand how my baby was turning against my every food whim and the harder I tried, the more he fought me. Not knowing what else to do, I started the stealth life of a mommy ninja chef. When I am craving something sweet, I like to trick myself with sneakily healthy desserts that feed my sweet tooth cravings without all the guilt afterward. I feel like a lot of people don’t realize just how easy it is to put together something sweet and tasty without all the icky stuff that you are trying to avoid with your diet right now. When it comes to making something quick to feed my midnight cravings, I always turn to smoothies.
It’s the start of the new year and everyone is trying to keep themselves on track with their new healthy goals for 2016. Smoothies are definitely a big part of the health movement, and if you are trying to detox, go vegan, lose weight, or just plain be healthier, it’s likely that smoothies on are your list to try out. I am right there with you! This year, with a renewed vigor for keeping my body healthy, I decided I was going to get serious about my smoothiemaking and really try harder to have breakfast every morning.
Both Syfy and I have issues with dairy and try to avoid it as much as possible these days (with the exception of really good cheese and yogurt!). I use non-dairy options instead when making all of our classic favorites! One of first things that I searched out to learn how to make, was whipped cream. I grew up in a household that believes that no hot cocoa and no pumpkin pie should ever go without at least a dollop (or more….) of whipped cream! This is law in our house and so the thought of getting rid of all of our dairy had daunted me, when I realized that also meant my beloved whipped cream. Don’t be sad! There is a fantastic and super simple alternative that tastes just as great! Take it from this whipped-creamaholic that this coconut milk whipped cream is SUPER good and doesn’t taste like coconut to me, at all.
