Save Money Making Your Own Herbal Hydrosols and Flower Waters

I have a secret ingredient that I prefer to use in place of the water in ALL of my DIY beauty products and toiletries. Hydrosols, aka flower waters! I first came across hydrosols in my essential oil studies. I had learned that they were a result of making essential oils, essentially a byproduct. I was fascinated by these gentle essential oil infused waters. Along the way, I learned a lot more about them and their many uses and varieties. I wanted to purchase every hydrosol that I came across but was sorely disappointed when I realized that I couldn't afford  to purchase all of the hydrosols that I wanted. What is a DIY loving hippy to do? Make it myself, of course! Now you can too!

Make Your Own Dog Food and Your Dog Will Thank You EVERY Time That You Feed Him!

After making Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats, I began to notice Sirius (our 50+ lbs. dog that thinks he is Syfy's   brother) began to act very bored with the super expensive dog kibble I was feeding him. Every morning and every evening he would slump over to his food dish and sniff at the same old boring kibble and then walk away. What happened to my voracious eater? I know for a fact that he loves to eat food, Continue reading “Make Your Own Dog Food and Your Dog Will Thank You EVERY Time That You Feed Him!”

DIY Dishwasher Tablets For Hard or Soft Water (and homemade Lemishine)

In our old house, I was utilizing castile soap in my dishwasher and always getting fantastic results. I had no clue that the difference in my water softness could make such a huge difference in how well some of my natural cleaning products worked. When we moved into our new home, my first load of dishes came out of the dishwasher covered in a white film. I was beyond disappointed.  At first, I had no idea what had happened, but after doing some reading, I found my problem. If you have really hard water, castile soap will turn the water cloudy, and consequently, will cause your glasses to come out cloudy too. I knew that now I needed to come up with a new dishwashing plan for hard water. Ban the Bugs With Essential Oils – DIY Bugs-B-Gone Candles & Spray

It seems to me, that every year I feel like the bugs come out bigger, badder, and stronger. Last year the grasshoppers ate my entire vegetable garden; but this year, I have plans to prevent any bug infestations from ruining any outdoor fun I want to have! I have created The Hippy Homemaker Bug-B-Gone candles and spray. The smell of this spray is absolutely wonderful and refreshing. We have even sprayed this spray on our picnic tables and blankets, to help keep the bugs off of our area. This spray works so well that I carry a bottle of it in my purse, just in case! The BEST Homemade First Time Mom’s Kit! (or any new mother for that matter!)

It's springtime in the northern hemisphere and everyone around me is getting pregnant and having babies! It's that time of year for twitterpating and baby showers! The most recent baby shower that I attended, was thrown for a family friend and her impending little princess, Kirbi! I decided it was time that I put together a Hippy Homemaker Homemade First Time Mom's Kit and fill it full of homemade goodies that I figured she would need (and a couple gifts that weren't homemade but I still figured were needed!) The invitation that I received to this baby shower had a really cute owl on it, so I found adorable owl clothes pins at Michael's and used them to add a cohesive theme to my gift's look! Homemade Hippy Honey Wheat Bread (and why you should be paying attention to the ingredients in the bread that you buy)

About six months back, I said to the Hippy Husband, “I need to start making bread by hand because I bet you $10 there are absolutely no nutrients in the over processed sliced bread that we have bought from the grocery store our whole lives.” Continue reading “Homemade Hippy Honey Wheat Bread (and why you should be paying attention to the ingredients in the bread that you buy)”

Easter Basket Alternatives to Candy (and Syfy’s Waldorf Inspired Easter Basket!)

With Spring time officially here and Easter in a week, I decided to put together an Easter basket for Syfy that would help to also build up our Waldorf style homeschool classroom. I have NEVER been the kind of girl to put candy in Easter baskets or Christmas stalkings. When I was little, the memories that I have are the ones that my own Mother gave me by putting cute accessories,  jewelry,  gift cards, pencils, pencil tops/erasers, and other crafty little doowahickeys in our Easter baskets and stalkings. My sister and I always got really excited by this too! We didn't care that our friends were getting baskets full of candy because when their candy ran out, we knew that our sweet gifts would still be in use.
