After buying a whole array of finger paints from Hobby Lobby, for Silas, and setting them all up, I realized there was this stench coming from them. It was a terrible chemical smell! The bottles say non-toxic but they most certainly don't smell like they're non-toxic. This situation made me realize that I could just make my own here at home. The best part is, I know what's in them.

DIY Non-Toxic Fingerpaints

This recipe is VERY SIMPLE!!! It also takes very few ingredients, all of which can usually be found in your pantry. You can use this recipe with paintbrushes too!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • 3 Tbsp. organic sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. real salt
  • food coloring

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine ingredients in a saucepan over medium-low heat.
  2. Stir ingredients until thickened, remove from heat, and cool.
  3. Pour into containers and add food coloring to each one creating desired colors!
